After a week of painting and remodeling the office, the walls were looking a little bare. A search for artwork to place in the body shop office yielded standard automotive signage and reproductions of prints seen many times over. That was not going to work for me. I needed something that would fit our shop. Something fun, something unique, but still sticking to the paint and body shop part of the business. I found it in this project and it fit all the requirements. It was fun, it was unique, and it fit the office. Better yet, I could do it myself with simple every day items.
To recreate this yourself all you need is a blank framed canvas from any arts and crafts department, boxes of crayons, one can of black spray paint, and a glue gun.
First, paint your canvas black with the spray paint and allow to dry completely. Next, grab your glue gun and glue your crayons along the top of the canvas in whatever order appeals to you.
Once all your crayons are glued in place, use a hairdryer or heat gun to melt them. I used a heat gun as it works a little faster than the hair dryer. Changing the angle of the canvas as the crayons melt will affect whether the wax runs towards the bottom or pools in place. Don't be afraid to experiment!
I let the crayons run the first time then let it cool. The next go around as the wax began to melt I didn't let it run very far before I laid it flat so it would pool and darken the layer underneath it. It's a fun project guaranteed to be different every time!
